Neat picture the previous owner sent us of the boat while we were in BadlandsĪfter Badlands, we’re picking up the pace to get across South Dakota and hoping the Bounder keeps running well. We had a relaxing week enjoying post work sunsets and talking a lot about the sailboat, which makes sense because we just went to see it. Our first true boondocking experience was something we will always remember Other then constantly being on edge, we witnessed an outstanding sunset and sunrise. It’s a bit of a tourist trap, but they have some good ice cream. We drove in to check out the town of Wall and visited Wall Drug also. It’s just a couple miles from Pinnacles Overlook and the main drive through the park, and the town of Wall is a short drive north for supplies. On your way to Badlands, you can’t miss the many signs for Wall Drug. This spot is actually located in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, but has the most spectacular views of the Badlands and is considered one of the best camping spots in the country. The views were stunning! We thought about driving the whole park loop to the interstate on our last day, but with the issues we’ve had with the RV lately, we opted for just taking the easy interstate miles. The other time we did a fairly easy out and back hike from the Conata Picnic Area.

One time we just did a sunset drive and saw a few buffalo. We were both still recovering from the colds we had in Rapid City, so we weren’t super active during our stay here. We also had some wildlife checking out what we were up to! We set up the smoker at Nomad View for one of the most picturesque cooking views we’ve had. Several evenings we’d point our chairs west for sundowners and then turn them back toward the canyon for the moonrise right after. There were some amazing sunsets and moon rises here. Without an abundance of light pollution, we were able to gaze up at thousands of stars and even see the feint light of the Milky Way Galaxy For these. Also, not to mention, we saw one of the best starry nights we've ever experienced. Our GPS Situation: We don't use an actual GPS. Water and Dump Stations are available in Wall, SD, which is about 5 miles from this location. The spots are located right beside a canyon, so everyone has an amazing view. Our first true boondocking experience was something we will always remember Other then constantly being on edge, we witnessed an outstanding sunset and sunrise. Getting there: East off 240, drive near the rock wall area and pick a spot along the drive. This spot is popular, but there is plenty of room for a lot of RV’s.

Yes, it’s called Nomad View Dispersed, and it is one of the most amazing spots we have stayed in the RV. Is there dispersed camping near Badlands National Park? We’re still nervous the Bounder is going to have cooling issues, but we had no issues getting to Badlands. We were excited for the national park but maybe even more excited for the boondocking outside the park. Our next stop was Badlands National Park and that would be our seventh and last national park of the year. After our stay in Rapid City and trip back to South Carolina, we were ready to see more of South Dakota. If you follow top boondocking spots at all, chances are you have heard of Nomad View Dispersed.
